One of the five stages of grief is referred to as bargaining. The denial of a loss or a trauma subsides and the anger begins to simmer. There is a realization that a loved one was taken for granted, or a traumatic experience could have been avoided. Beneath the anger, lies a layer of emptiness. Life is dramatically altered, and one would do anything, give everything, to have their former life back.
My experiences with bargaining have correlated with specific dates, such as holidays and birthdays and accomplishing significant milestones or goals. I was thirteen the first year I spent Christmas without my father. I remember thinking throughout the day, ?I would give back all my presents just to see my dad alive and decorating the tree.?? Bargaining does not necessarily mean one wants to bargain material objects. One can bargain emotions, such as pride or happiness. In high school, I chose a self-reliant route to receiving a diploma. I home-schooled myself, taking on twice the workload, and I graduated a year early. I felt horrible for reaching a goal, without my father?s presence. I thought, ?Why did I do this when my dad could not be here to see it happen??
Over the years, I have learned that bargaining can?take quality away from life and replace it with dread and disappointment. ? I think a deceased loved one would encourage their survivors to enjoy their lives and to cherish moments, gifts, and each other?s company. I think a deceased loved one would most certainly applaud their survivors as they obtain self-esteem by working hard and find success. I think a deceased loved one would want their survivors to not only survive, but thrive.?Bargaining throughout my loss influenced me to feel pessimistic about my life?s purpose and direction. I have realized that a person does not have to lose control over their life because of a loss. There are so many ways in keeping one?s spirit and the memory of a loved one alive. Listening to their favorite song or album, while getting teary eyed. Partaking in one of their favorite activities, with a friend or not. Volunteering for an organization that supports cures or provides spiritual/emotional comfort.?Life after loss is painfully bittersweet; however, the loss does not have to make one?s life unbearable.

Aussies extend medal run to record six with bronze
Australia's men scored a deserved 3-1 win over Great Britain which earned them the hockey bronze medal and extended their Olympic medal-winning sequence to six, the longest of any country.
The Australians often looked like the world's best side -- as many people believe they are -- and recovered well from the great disappointment of losing three goals in the last 20 minutes to Germany in Thursday's semi-finals, which cost them a place in the final.
They also let slip a 3-0 lead to Great Britain at the pool stage, but there was little likelihood of anything similar happening this time.
They created a hatful of opportunities with their open and direct play, and could have won by more.
"We went for them, and we were relentless for the full 70 minutes. Today we were better because we held the ball better," said Australia star Jamie Dwyer.
"Against Germany we didn't hold the ball for long enough and that's what let us down. It's just unfortunate that we didn't make the final after such a successful four years."
Britain's consolation was that their performance indicated a recovery, in their case from the 9-2 thrashing by The Netherlands, which equalled their biggest Olympic defeat and which coach Jason Lee called "embarrassing".
Australia have had by far the most field goal attempts in these Olympics, and their first goal, after 17 minutes, showed why.

Andrew Cronje gave South Africa an eighth-minute lead before Sandeep Singh levelled six minutes later.
Timothy Drummond, in the 33rd minute, and Lloyd Norris-Jones, after 64 minutes, gave South Africa a two-goal cushion before Dharmavir Singh reduced the margin for India in the 66th.
Belgium scored their first Olympic win over Spain since the Montreal Games 36 years ago as two goals from Tom Boon helped them to a 5-2 win and a final placing of fifth.

The sensing technology, called Botanicus Interacticus, can also be replicated with standard electrical components, allowing the construction of biologically-inspired artificial interactive plants.?
?From the point of view of our sensor, there would be no difference between real and artificial plants,? the team notes.
The technology is similar to the Disney Research team?s Touch? technology we reported on earlier this year that?s capable of tracking touch input on nearly any kind of object ? a table aware of place settings, for example, or Jacuzzi that automatically turns on the bubbles step into it.
Where this technology will eventually lead is unknown, but it sure is fun to ponder. A ficus that serves as a TV remote would certainly be more engaging than almost anything on TV, at least for a while.
